LEGAL · TERMS

The rules of the road.

These Terms of Service govern your use of Orion, an Android app-blocking product. By downloading, installing, or using Orion, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

LAST UPDATED: JULY 14, 2026

1. What Orion does

Orion lets you select apps on your device to "lock." Once locked, a background service watches for those apps being opened and shows a full-screen block screen over them, along with a personalized "roast" message intended to discourage the open. Orion also shows you stats about your usage (streak, blocked opens, time saved).

Orion is a self-control tool. It is not a parental control, enterprise device management, or security product, and it is not designed to prevent access by a determined user with access to their own device's system settings (e.g. uninstalling the app, revoking permissions, or using a second device).

2. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use Orion.
  • To use the App you sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of that account and for all activity that occurs under it.
  • You agree to provide accurate information during onboarding (e.g. age range, occupation, reason for using the app).

3. Permissions you grant

To function, Orion requires certain Android permissions, including Usage Access, Display Over Other Apps, and the ability to see your installed app list. Details on why each permission is needed are in our Privacy Policy. By granting these permissions, you authorize Orion to monitor foreground app activity on your device and to display the block screen over apps you have locked. You may revoke these permissions at any time via system Settings, which may prevent the App from functioning.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Orion to monitor, block, or restrict a device or account that is not your own, without the device owner's knowledge and consent
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App except as permitted by applicable law
  • Use the App in any way that violates applicable law or infringes the rights of others
  • Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to our backend services

5. User content

Onboarding answers and any other information you submit ("User Content") remain associated with your account. You grant us a limited license to store and process User Content solely to operate and personalize the App, as described in our Privacy Policy. You represent that you have the right to submit any User Content you provide.

6. No guarantee of effectiveness

Orion is a tool to help you reduce app usage, not a guarantee that you will do so. The block screen can be dismissed via "Open Anyway," and locking is only as effective as your own commitment and your device's system settings. We make no representations that Orion will achieve any particular outcome for you (e.g. reduced screen time, improved productivity, or behavior change).

7. Service availability

Orion depends on Android system APIs (e.g. Usage Access, foreground services) and a backend service (Supabase) for account and sync features. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Android system behavior (e.g. battery optimization, OEM-specific background restrictions) may affect the App's reliability in ways outside our control. Core blocking functionality is designed to work locally on your device even without network connectivity; account sync and sign-in require an internet connection.

8. Intellectual property

The App, including its design, code, and content (such as roast copy and visual assets), is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or brand assets beyond what's necessary to use the App as intended.

9. Termination

You may stop using Orion at any time by uninstalling the App and/or deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the App. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g. Sections 6, 8, 10, and 11) will survive.

10. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will successfully block every attempt to open a locked app.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the App, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the App will not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12. Changes to the App and these Terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the App, or any part of it, at any time. We may update these Terms from time to time; material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of your jurisdiction of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local law requires otherwise.
